- Submarine/Horizontal Gel Systems
Description - 
These horizontal systems are designed for submarine gel electrophoresis.
(Agarose wick gel electrophoresis can be accomplished by ordering optional
baffle system described on page 29.) Sooner Scientific offers these systems
with four gel bed sizes: 14cm x 20cm (above right), 20cm x 20cm, 20cm x
30 cm (above left), and 20cm x 40cm. The UV transparent gel trays are 1/4"
thick to prevent heat distortion during application of hot agarose and are
equipped with four agarose "anchors" to prevent the gel from floating
during electrophoresis.
Each unit comes equipped with:
- Cooling chamber
- UV transparent gel tray
- Platinum electrodes
- Tapered baffles for submarine gel formation
- Buffer recirculation ports
- Leveling base with spirit level
- Safety cover with interlocking power leads
- Safety tip power leads
- Shipped with a SeaQualite Agarose Free Sample

Tapered Baffle Gel Casting System - 
Tapered Baffle Gel Casting
System: This submarine family has tapered baffles for simplified gel casting.
Gel casting is accomplished by sliding baffles into place and pouring gel
solution into gel bed area.
1. To pour submarine gels, slide tapered baffles into grooves next to
gel bed. Baffles will rest friction tight against the gel bed or gel tray
if used. Pour gel solution into place.
2. After gel has solidified, simply slide baffles out of slots. Store baffles
in spaces conveniently located at either end of unit for later use.
Special Features -
- Gel tray configuration allows single run or multiple simultaneous short
runs. Accessory gel tray divider bar allows the user to cast a half length
gel while retaining the width, effectively converting your standard size
submarine gel system into a wide "mini-gel."
- Platinum electrode is sealed in side wall shielding it from the buffer
as it descends to bottom of unit and is only exposed along the base of
the reservoir on both sides. This helps to protect the platinum and provides
a uniform field across the width of the gel.
- Buffer recirculation ports allow maintenance of uniform pH and ionic
strength and reduce frequency of buffer changes necessary during long runs.
- Precision-machined polycarbonate combs can be adjusted to desired height
above gel bed.
- Agarose wick option: Conversion to horizontal agarose wick electrophoresis
can be accomplished by ordering either dedicated or removable baffles for
agarose wick formation.
Safety Features -
- Interlocking Safety Cover: Power leads are permanently attached to
the safety cover. Easy-off push tabs on either side of safety cover allow
easy removal.
- Power leads have retractable sheath banana plug on male end leaving
no metal exposed, and will not short out if dropped. (Complies with European
safety standards.)
