Sooner Scientific offers two different models of Vertical Mini-Gel Systems for the electrophoresis of small polyacrylamide or agarose gels. The dual unit, Cat.# LFU-200, (see above photo left), provides the capability of running two mini-gels simultaneously under identical buffer conditions. The single unit, Cat.# LFU-100, is pictured above right. The gel plate dimensions are 11.3cm (w) x 10cm (h). These systems are especially useful for rapid analysis of samples in short supply. Small format gels also cut down on the use of expensive reagents needed for gel formation and running buffer.

The Dual System comes complete with:

• Cooling chamber with coolant recirculation ports
• Long-lasting silicone gaskets on both sides of unit to prevent buffer leakage during electrophoresis
• Safety cover with interlocking power leads
• Ten molded polypropylene spring clamps
• Cam for easy removal of safety cover
• Safety-tip power leads
• Platinum electrodes
• SeaQuate pre-mixed acrylamide/bis 30% or 40% gel solution is shipped with each order. Choose One: SQL 30191, SQL 30291, SQL 303751, SQL 40191, SQL 40291 or SQL 403751.

The Single System comes complete with:

• Long-lasting silicone gasket to prevent buffer leakage during electrophoresis
• Safety cover with interlocking power leads
• Five molded polypropylene spring clamps
• Safety-tip power leads
• Platinum electrodes
• SeaQuate pre-mixed acrylamide/bis 30% or 40% gel solution is shipped with each order. Choose One: SQL 30191, SQL 30291, SQL 303751, SQL 40191, SQL 40291 or SQL 403751.

Special Features - Agarose plug Gel Casting Stand, casts up to two gels simultaneously.

• Small size permits rapid analysis of samples in short supply and reduces use of expensive reagents needed for gel formation and running buffer.
• Three methods for gel casting:

  1. Gel Cassette Sealer: Precision-machined PVC spacers can be used with Gel Cassette Sealer (see pages 34-35) for easy gel sealing.

  2. GEL CASTING STAND: Two gels can be cast simultaneously using the agarose plug gel casting stand, Cat. # LBR-200 One of two white clamps is fastened onto the aluminum rod to provide vertical support. (See photo at right.)

  3. Multiple Gel Casting Chambers: (described on page 42) are available for casting either four (Cat. # FBB-204 or ten (Cat. # FBB-210) gels simultaneously. (See description on page 41.)

• Mini-Isoelectric Focusing Tube Gel Adapters (see description on page 42), convert your LFU-200 into a temperature controlled I.E.F. unit. Up to 12 samples can be run under identical buffer conditions.
• Mini-Blotting System now available (see description on pages 41 and 46) can hold up to 4 gel cassettes simultaneously.
• A wide variety of precision machined Teflon combs are available to suit your needs. Sharkstooth combs are now available for these units.
• Both Vertical Mini-Gel Systems will accept certain brands of pre-cast gels.

COMBS: A variety of precision-machined Teflon combs are available for this system. The combs come in five thicknesses (0.5mm, 0.75mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm, 2.0mm, or 3.0mm) with a choice of 1, 2, 3 (two wells with a middle marker or three equal wells), 7, 10, or 14 wells. Sharkstooth combs for these units are available in a thickness of 0.5mm with 13,15,19, or 29 wells.

SPACER SETS: The spacer sets are precision-machined from unbreakable PVC and come in five thicknesses (0.5mm, 0.75mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm, 2.0mm, or 3.0mm). Gel Cassette Sealer (see pages 32-33) of the appropriate thickness is recommended for use with these spacers to make gel preparation simpler and faster.

GLASS PLATES: Two types of glass plates are offered for different applications:

1. Precision-notched glass plate sets with dimensions of 11.3cm (w) x 10.0cm (h) x 1/8" (thickness) are standard with this system. (Cat. # LFO-100R.)

2. Notched and frosted glass plate sets of the same dimensions are available for agarose gels. The frosted surface of the glass provides better surface adhesion of the agarose. (Cat. # LFO-200R.)

All glass plates are edge sanded and polished for safety and durability. NOTE: Both the LFU-100 and LFU-200 Mini-Gel Systems will accept Novex pre-cast gels.

WHITE CLAMPS: Sooner Scientific now has available molded polypropylene spring clamps for use with these vertical mini-gel systems. These clamps are designed specifically for this application and feature a stainless steel spring. Additional clamps can be ordered in packages of five. The smaller white clamps, Cat. # FOB-0003, are for attaching the glass plate sandwich to the unit, while the Cat. # FOB-0002 clamps are used for gel casting.
