- Electrophoretic Blotting Systems
Description -
The Sooner Scientific Electrophoretic Blotting Systems are designed
for Western, Southern, or Northern Blotting. Proteins and nucleic acids
from agarose or acrylamide gels can be transferred onto nitrocellulose,
nylon, DEAE, or other derivatized paper. Up to three gels with dimensions
as large as 15cm x 21.5cm can be electrophoresed simultaneously. Each system
comes equipped with:
- Two removable electrode panels. Choice of either platinum wire panels
(A) or planar electrodes (B)
- One gel cassette assembly> (C). Additional cassettes may
be ordered
- Safety cover
- Safety-tip power leads
Special Features -
- Platinum Electrodes (A): Platinum electrode wires are mounted
into grooves on removable acrylic panels to protect from accidental breakage.
This design allows chamber and electrode panels to be disassembled and
cleaned easily. To provide uniform electrophoretic transfer, over 92 inches
of platinum wire is spaced 2.5 cm apart on the electrode panels. This feature
assures even current distribution over the entire gel surface.
- Planar Electrodes (B): The anode electrode is made from a platinum-plated
Titanium sheet; the cathode is made of durable 351 stainless steel. This
combination is recommended for high intensity transfers.
- The cassette assembly (C) consists of two hinged, perforated
fiberglass panels and two Scotch Brite¨ pads between which the gel
and nitrocellulose or other derivatized paper are placed. The chamber is
designed to hold up to three cassettes.
- An optional cooling tube (D) can be inserted for temperature
control during electrophoresis.
- The chamber is designed so that each electrode may be placed in two
positions, depending on the number of gels to be blotted simultaneously
and the distance desired between electrode and gel. During a single transfer,
elec-trodes can be placed either 1.5cm or 3.25cm from the gel. When transferring
three gels simultaneously, electrodes are spaced 1.5cm from outer gels
and 3.25cm from inner gel.
- Stirring bar can be placed beneath cassettes to allow buffer circulation
and heat exchange during elec-trophoresis.
