AGAR

SEAQUALITE AGAR SQA-20000 PURIFIED BACTERIOLOGICAL AGAR

This highly purified agar for use in Biochemistry and Microbiology is processed from carefully selected Gelidium seaweeds (Rhodophyceae). Through a purification process the product obtained has an ash content essentially lower than that of bacteriological agar. This process also has decreased the small oligosaccharides fraction and increased the agarose contents. The physicochemical, biochemical and bacteriological properties of this product are strictly controlled to guarantee its exceptional behavior in biochemical, bacteriological and mycological applications.

USES: in Biochemistry: Immunodiffusion: To be used as support
Electrophoresis: Excellent as support.
Cell Culture: Excellent for tissues and cell culture media.
Bacteriology: Essentially free of impurities that could interfer with other products in culture media formulation. Free of bacterial inhibitors. Recommended in media to be used for determination of the susceptibility of certain microorganisms or bacteriostatic drugs.
Mycology: For assimilation test in yeasts and molds. For susceptibility est for fungicidal and fungistatic drugs.

SEAQUALITE SQA-21000E AND SQA-21000A BACTERIOLOGICAL GRADE AGAR:

Bacteriological agar is a gelling agent used in the preparation of culture media and in other bacteriological applications.

The main advantage is the absence of inhibitors which could hinder optimal development of microorganisms. In addition, bacteriological agar also possesses other attributes such as transparency, high hysteresis and very reliable reproducibility.

Two types of bacteriological agar coexist in the market: European and American varieties. The first type has a higher gel strength and is used in concentrations of 1.0% to 1.2%, American-type agar gives lower gel strength and is utilized at concentrations ranging from 1.2% to 1.6%.

Each batch produced is thoroughly tested for biological performance against a battery of known bacterial cultures in order to ensure proper growth characteristics and the absence of inhibitors. Additional QC test are carried out to be certain that each batch meets established physical and chemical specifications.
